Source Music released an official statement regarding GFRIEND Sowon‘s controversy.
Recently, Sowon posted two pictures of her posing with a Nazi soldier statue that angered many netizens. As the controversy grew, Sowon immediately deleted the photos, and netizens demanded an official apology.
Her agency explained, “We deeply apologize for causing controversy over the behind-the-scenes video of GFRIEND’s comeback show and the photos uploaded by member Sowon.”
“In November last year, staff from an external broadcast station rented a cafe in Paju to shoot a VCR for GFRIEND’s comeback show, and our staff took behind-the-scenes videos at the filming site as well as several photos for artists’ SNS.”
“The staff in charge did not know that there was a problem with the mannequin’s outfit. Since then, the behind-the-scenes video (December 12) and photos (January 31) have also undergone an internal inspection and discussion process, but we uploaded them without recognizing all the problems.”
“We apologize for not being able to check in advance that there were inappropriate props on the set, not thoroughly inspected in the process of filming and uploading content, and not paying close attention to historical facts and social problems. We apologize to those who may have felt uncomfortable with the video and photos.”
Regarding Sowon, the agency said, “The problematic part of the video has been fixed. The artist herself was very surprised to find out the meaning of the photo and immediately deleted it. She felt deeply responsible for posting such a photo.”
“We will realize more that the contents we produce and share affect many people, and we will pay more attention to social issues in the future.” We deeply apologize to those who may have been hurt by the video and photos.”
